COMMUNICATIONS
MEETINGS / MINUTES
Problem observed: Meetings don't always go as planned because not everyone is used to chairing meetings.
Problem 2 observed: Minutes should only be available to other factions or a givan faction's members and no one else, because anyone else reading these, like the Press, could pull stories from these - Not necessarily stories we'd want to have in print, our collective image being at stake.
Solution offered: A structured plan, to be chaired by just one person at any given meeting, needs to be established. I can help here - and will - by building a template, if none are currently in existence.
Results: S.M.A.R.T. meetings, with measurable, time-limited objectives and people accountable for given tasks in a clear, concise fashion.

CENTRAL HUB
Problem 1 observed: There is no CENTRAL place (and if there is I apologize but I've been searching for you since this began) where Cities protesting can go for information, Communications Plans, Flyer Templates, etc... Things that do not need to be re-invented each time, for each city.
Solutions 1 offered: There are great designers amongst Occupy. Have one design a given pamphlet. Make it customizable ONLY in the sense that the city name, the Time of events/protests/ and locations may be changed upon it, the rest remaining the same. Worse comes to worse, there is a multitude of FREE Flyer Templates available here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=flyers Pick one, fix it the way we want it, save it as a template, and make it Occupy's Brand.
Result 1: Occupy gets a Brand. That's right, a recognizable brand. So whether a passer-by is in Tokyo or London or even Canada, when he/she gets a flyers, they're ALL the same. Branding is important.
Problem 2 observed: No one seems to know where to go for information.
Solutions 2 offered: @OccupyTogether and @OccupyInfo seem to have done some great work but no one seems to have ALL of the information in ONE place. How about creating @OccupyCentral (or something like that) and include that Twitter address in everything we print?
Results 2: People out there, either wanting to start up a new faction or merely wanting to attend another protest elsewhere, seeing that CENTRAL INFORMATION CENTER Twitter address on say a Flyer, will know WHERE to go, to then go from there.
COMMUNICATIONS PLAN
Problem Observed: Given a few common things seen and heard through various occupations or tweets, a clear, concise and uniform Message goes lacking.
Solution offered: A Communications Plan should be created and then handed down to every faction.
Result : All Occupy factions should have the same clear, professional Message ready for the Media when they are approached. This will make Occupy look organized and not just like some "angry mob", "jobless kids" (or whatever else the Press may wish to label us), running about, clueless.
Result 1.1: It also gives Occupy's Marches Focus and Purpose.
Result 1.2: Occupy and the messages it needs to convey will then be taken far more seriously.
Results 1.3: This will also encourage people to keep demonstrating in a PEACEFUL manner.
WHAT YOU NEED TO GATHER IN WAYS OF INFORMATION
You need a Communications Plan
What is Occupy's Mission? (To be heard? Ok. Why? Brainstorm in groups)
What are Occupy's Goals? (What does Occupy want to achieve?)
Who is Occupy's Audience? (Is Occupy addressing President Obama? The World at large? The Media? Just our Nation? Just our respective City? County? Who is Occupy addressing its concerns to with its Protests?)
Who is Occupy's Spokesperson? (You will need ONE person to represent the whole of Occupy and then ONE person to represent each faction. Who will it be and what are their coordinates? Make up a fake name and generic email address if you're worried about Privacy ["Activist" never looked too good on a job resume. Some employers actually frown upon this so you may want to remain anonymous] but give some meat to this animal as it has got to get done!)
What is this Spokesperson's Contact Data? (Will Media reach him/her via phone? Email? etc)
Press Releases? (Who is to handle these?)
Contigency Plans? Damage Control? (What/How does Occupy plan to respond to the Media in the event a given protester somewhere reacts violently, tarnishing Occupy's Peaceful image? Occupy needs to be ready for such things. The Media is unforgiving, as is its Audience. A pre-set/pre-formatted answer should be formulated and handed to all factions.)
And so on... See supplied templates or seek out other ones on the internet, according to your preference.
Flying out to Bhutan to attend a wedding shortly and then going to India to tend to business for a non-profit I chair, I won't be around to tend to this account for a while. I wish you the best in your efforts, hoping Occupy will weigh its goals in accordance with the desired outcomes, keeping in mind that throwing someone in jail, though offering temporary (however 'juicy') satisfaction for all of the immoral harm caused, won't necessarily do anything to boost our current economy (Just a thought to ponder as you decipher your goals). I wish Occupy well. Stay safe out there.
